In the course of our 18 year existence as an online events calendar, Conal has come across some scams that so called event organizers have perpetrated. We share them below to help you avoid becoming a victim.
Event cancelled and money not returned.
Event not taking place at all.
Event taking place, but making use of false information.
Here are some tips to help you avoid them:
Do not pay money to organizers unless you are sure the event is authentic, and is taking place. Do internet research about the event organizers; verify their credentials through third parties; and do not pay money if you have any misgivings.
Make phone calls and write emails to ascertain the authenticity of an events and the organizers. If phone calls and/or emails are not answered, be wary. If the organizers do not check out; be wary.
Check with the venue that the event is taking place there. If necessary, do your own internet search for venue contact details.
Check with advertised speakers that they are engaged to speak at an event.
We make every effort to check that events we list are authentic, but visitors to our website and event attenders need to be aware that it is their responsibility to check for themselves that an event is authentic before paying money to organizers or making an arrangement to attend an event.
